The Government of India launched the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) in April 2009 by modifying the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) and subsuming earlier sub-missions/schemes. The NRDWP guidelines were further updated in 2013 with focus on piped water supply, increasing household tap connections and raising drinking water supply norms. The objectives of the Programme is to provide safe and adequate water for drinking, cooking and other domestic needs to every rural person on a sustainable basis.
To ensure permanent drinking water security in rural India.
To ensure drinking water security through measures to improve/augment existing drinking water sources and conjunctive use of groundwater, surface-water and rain water harvesting based on village water budgeting and security plan prepared by the community/local government.
Delivery of services by the system for its entire design period of quality of water in conformity with the prescribed standards at both the supply and consumption points.
Issue of potability, reliability, sustainability, convenience, equity and consumers preference to be the guiding principles while planning for a community based water supply system.
To enable communities to monitor and maintain surveillance on their drinking water sources.
To ensure that all schools and anganwadis have access to safe drinking water.
To provide enabling environment for Panchayat Raj Institutions and local communities to manage their own drinking water sources and systems.
To provide access to information through online reporting mechanism with information placed in public domain to bring in transparency, accountability and informed decision making.

Information, Education and Communication is very essential for creating demand for safe and potable drinking water and sanitary facilities in the rural areas. These activities are being done to create awareness among the people about operation and maintenance of water supply assets, Water related issues like water quality monitoring, water borne diseases, sanitation and hygiene. The organisation has conducted training programmes at Gramapanchayaths. The training programme was provided to GP members, VWSC members, SDMC members, ASHA workers, Anganawadi teachers, School teachers and watermen. Topics such as water resource management, operation and maintenance of water supply assets, Water related issues like water quality monitoring, water borne diseases, sanitation and hygiene were discussed.HRD activities conducted are:

Participants took the oath for maintenance and management of water resources and water supply systems of their respective villages.
Members of VWSC and SHGs understood their roles and responsibilities related to maintenance of water resources and they agreed to involvement in water resource management and in sanitation activities.
VWSC and SHG members have agreed to sensitize the villagers regarding water and sanitation through campaigns and one to one discussion.
Participants agreed to rejuvenate small water bodies and take steps to recharge ground water.
All Participants agreed to use and maintain toilets and they maintain personal and community hygiene.
